Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The position will assist in the payroll process for faculty, staff and students for the Robert H. Smith School of Business consisting of over 900+ active employees including faculty, exempt, non-exempt staff, and student employees. Consult with various University Human Resources departments to include Payroll, Employment, Benefits, PHR and Academic Affairs.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for a degree.
7-9 years (with a High School Diploma or GED) relevant payroll experience.
5-7 years (with an associate degree) relevant payroll experience.
3-5 years (with a bachelor’s degree) relevant payroll experience.

Experience working with PHR, WOW, BRIO.
Microsoft Excel experience required and working in spreadsheets and databases.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills and must possess the ability to interact with a diverse public in a professional, sensitive, and service oriented fashion. Excellent team contributor; energetic self started, highly professional and positive demeanor; attention to detail is critical.
Ability to maintain confidentiality is essential.
Experience using payroll systems.


Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred
Higher Education experience preferred.
Relevant payroll experience in a University environment.
Experience with University payroll systems, appointments using PHR, WOW, Brio systems, and knowledge of the University policies and procedures is desirable.

Physical Demands

Traditional office environment. Must be able to remain in a stationary position for the majority of the day.

Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.

Capable of exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.

Substantial repetitive movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers from computer entry work.

The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.

Must be able to maneuver around the campus to attend meetings and pick up time-sensitive or valuable items from other departments.

Frequently communicates with faculty, staff and students who have inquiries. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
