Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

Postdoctoral position to Study Plant Virus Host Interactions Involved in the Suppression of Age Related Resistance A postdoc position is available immediately in the Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology Research at University of Maryland College Park to investigate plant virus suppression of age related resistance.
This multi- year funded position is within Dr. James Culver’s laboratory and will examine how viruses usurp host molecular processes as well as suppress age related resistance as a means to promote their own movement within the vascular phloem. These studies will also enhance our understanding of the molecular processes plants use to regulate the systemic movement of macromolecules. Responsibilities:
• Develop molecular systems to interrogate the role of companion cell transcriptions factors in modulating age related resistance and virus phloem loading. This includes the identification and characterization of essential target genes under the control of these factors.
• Develop bioinformatic workflows for the analysis, visualization and publication of RNAseq and ChiP-seq based studies.
• Assist in the mentoring of graduate, undergraduate and high school students.
• Present findings at conferences and through publications.

Minimum Qualifications:

Ph.D. in molecular plant biology / virology or a related field.
We are looking for highly motivated individual with a proven track record of productivity, excellent communication skills and the ability to conduct independent research. The candidate should have bench experience working in molecular plant biology systems and a strong working knowledge of bioinformatic workflows and systems for the analysis of omics data.
