Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The A. James Clark School of Engineering seeks a Graduate Assistant who will support the administrative functions required to execute various elements of the suite of Clark Scholarship Programs. This position will report directly to the program manager, who is responsible for managing the Clark Scholars Program, the Clark Opportunity Transfer Scholars Program, and the Clark Legacy Scholars Program. The Graduate Assistant will provide critical curricular and logistical expertise required to aid the program manager in administering recruitment and retention initiatives for scholarship recipients.

This is a 12 month, 20 hour per week Graduate Assistantship position that requires some evening and weekend hours.

Minimum Qualifications:

Good verbal and written communication skills. General administrative skills and computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets, and database management (prefer MS Word, Excel, and Access), and website maintenance. Experience or degree in engineering is not required.


Experience with undergraduate recruitment, student selection, event planning, and scholarship administration. Experience working with pre-college students and/or community college students.

Job Duties

• Assist in the planning, coordination, implementation and assessment of K-12 and community college outreach activities to recruit prospective scholarship applicants, including making logistical arrangements, coordinating application/RSVP processes, meeting with prospective students and parents, and making presentations.
• Participate in the Clark Scholarship Program’s scholarship process including reviewing applications, processing awards, and assisting with stewardship of the scholarships.
• In conjunction with the program manager, document student progress, including successes and challenges, using advising software such as Advise on the Web.
• Meet with current students to provide appropriate advising services, as directed and as needed by the program manager.
• Support faculty advisor for Clark Scholarship Programs in the execution and development of required business and leadership courses, as well as service learning projects or courses.
• Co-facilitate and co-plan summer bridge program for Clark Opportunity Scholars.
• Provide general clerical assistance as needed.
• Assist with other duties as assigned.

Salary and Benefits

The salary will be commensurate with the graduate student pay rate/scale for the Clark School of Engineering, and will depend on qualifications. Tuition remission benefits for 10 credits for the fall and spring semesters plus four credits in the summer. You will have an opportunity to enroll in medical, dental and prescription plans.
