Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine (VMCVM) at the University of Maryland in College Park, MD, invites applications from qualified individuals for a 12-month tenure/tenure-track faculty position in epidemiology at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. The candidate must possess a DVM (or equivalent degree) and an advanced degree (MS or PhD) and experience in preventive medicine, production medicine, or public health. Relevant clinical and/or field experience in epidemiology and prevention of diseases of economic and public health importance and Board Certification in a veterinary specialty under the American Board of Veterinary Specialties are preferred. The position will involve a combination of Extension and outreach (primarily working with the poultry industry), applied research, and teaching responsibilities. Salary will be commensurate with rank and experience.
Extension and Outreach: Extension and Outreach activities will focus on the poultry industry and involve working with extension poultry veterinarians to promote animal and public health. The close proximity of the College Park campus to Washington DC provides excellent opportunities for collaboration with federal agencies, corporate entities and foundations to establish experiential learning opportunities for students. The candidate is therefore expected to develop and maintain active and productive collaborations both within and outside the College.

Teaching: The candidate is expected to contribute to the teaching mission of the University of Maryland and the VMCVM by participating in both the professional DVM curriculum as well as in graduate student education. This will include mentoring of DVM students, particularly those in the Public and Corporate track of the CPCVM, as well graduate students under the Veterinary Medical Sciences Graduate Program at the University of Maryland.

Research: The candidate must develop a robust applied research program and associated body of published scholarship that addresses the needs of the poultry industry. Demonstrated ability to secure extramural funding necessary to sustain an active research program will be necessary to achieve tenure.
