Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Director of Information Technology is responsible for the direction of all technology resources at the School of Public Health (SPH). These responsibilities include strategic planning, budgeting, technology acquisition, management of academic/classroom/research technology resources, website, network servers, security, communications and multimedia systems, technology training, and user support services.

The Director of Information Technology also provides leadership for the administrative planning and delivery of solutions and services related to the building, infrastructure, equipment, and safety and security of the SPH and its personnel.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field.

• Seven (7) to ten (10) years of progressive experience managing network, server, storage, and backup infrastructure.
• Five (5) years of experience managing multi-person teams.
• Proven experience in IT planning and systems development and deployment; strong expertise in managing all infrastructure services including server, storage, cloud, network, and voice.
•Experience in developing and managing budgets.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
• Ability to use written and verbal communication effectively at all levels of the organization.
• Ability to motivate and challenge staff and their valuable resources in order to deliver measurable results.


•Experience with UMD and SPH systems, such as ELMS, Canvas, Drupal.
•Experience in managing website migrations.
•Experience in designing and implementing security protocols for research data.
•Experience in planning, developing and implementing IT projects.

Physical Demands

Ability to lift and transport computer equipment up to 60 lbs. Ability to sit and stand for long stretches of time. Specific vision abilities required for this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
