Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Facilities Manager will work closely with the Executive Director to support research activities in the department. This includes the day-to-day operations of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry as it relates to physical plant issues, capital assets, laboratory safety and compliance and the supervision of technical services staff and contractors.

The incumbent will be responsible for the coordination of work orders and building renovation or facility improvement projects; will be the departmental liaison to Department of Health and Safety and Facilities Management and manage capital assets inventory.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree.

Minimum of five (5) years experience in facilities management and one (1) to three (3) years of supervisory experience required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong problem-solving and consultative skills with the acumen and aptitude to evaluate and establish effective business processes.

Demonstrated ability to effectively organize and manage multiple and competing priorities with strong detail orientation.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to work with a diverse population at all levels, as wells as manage, mentor, and coach staff.


Experience in facilities management; preferably in large academic or research facility.

Physical Demands

Will be required to visually inspect laboratories for utility; renovation; or health and safety issues. During times of renovations this may involve exposure to dust and debris. There may be minimal exposures to chemicals when visiting operational research and teaching laboratories.
