Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Office of Research Administration (ORA) provides pre-award and non-financial post award administrative services for sponsored projects at the University of Maryland. In addition, ORA collaborates closely with a number of other central offices to help ensure the effective overall coordination of research administration services, systems, policies and procedures.

The purpose of this position with the Office of Research Administration (ORA) is to conduct the monitoring and oversight of subrecipients under sponsored projects and to oversee the closeout functions of sponsored research awards and subawards. This position will advise departmental administrators and faculty on agency guidelines and policy changes relating to closeout and Subrecipient monitoring. The Compliance Administrator will hire, train and supervise a Graduate Assistant and an undergraduate student assigned to perform closeout functions for sponsored research awards and subawards and perform these functions as necessary. This position will assist with basic subaward modifications and data entry and approvals in official University of Maryland systems.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education/experience.

Experience: One (1) to three (3) years’ experience in the field of grants/contracts administration, finance, law, Information Technology, business management or related field.; Five (5) years of experience without a degree.

• Ability to use multiple software systems.

• Proficient with Microsoft Office tools (e.g., word, excel).
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

• Ability to demonstrate initiative and resourcefulness.
• Demonstrated team player.


• Prior experience with federal grant and contract regulations in an institution of higher education.
• Certified Research Administrator (CRA) – preferred but not required
• Certified Pre-Award Research Administrator (CPRA) – preferred but not required

Physical Demands

Sedentary work performed in a normal office setting; exerts up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Ability to travel both on and off campus to attend meetings and/or training. Spending long hours in front of computer screen.
