Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Agent Associate will be expected to participate in the food safety training effort for fresh fruit and vegetable producers in Maryland. In addition, this faculty member will work closely with a team of extension educators and Maryland Department of Agriculture regulators to implement the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) on Maryland farms.

Minimum Qualifications:

• BS Degree in Plant Science with a focus on Horticultural Crops, Food Safety, Microbiology, or Plant Pathology.
• One or more undergraduate or graduate courses in the following disciplines:
Biometrics, general chemistry, environmental science, microbiology or plant pathology, and soil science.


• Once hired, Agent Associate will be required to use their personal vehicle one to two days a week to conduct job-related programs.
• Completion of the Produce Safety Alliance’s Train the Trainer Program, which is required to present FSMA-mandated trainings.
• Working knowledge of Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs).
• Ability to present food safety information to Spanish-speaking farm workers.
• One or more years of experience in adult education.
