Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Department of Animal and Avian Sciences is seeking an individual to provide leadership in Extension activities and applied research to benefit the poultry industry in Maryland, which is the largest agricultural industry in the State. The successful candidate will be expected to lead poultry Extension efforts in the State and to work closely with the poultry industry. The candidate will be expected to maintain an extramurally funded extension and applied research program, and ample opportunities exist for intra-departmental collaboration with current faculty members ( The applied research program is open to any discipline within poultry science, including nutrition, management, welfare, genetics and physiology. Poultry facilities to support a research program are operated by the Department and by the Maryland Agricultural Experiment Station ( Teaching responsibilities include instruction of Commercial Poultry Management at the undergraduate level every other year and the training and mentoring of graduate students. Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications include a doctorate in Poultry Science or a related discipline and experience in applied aspects of poultry science.


Preferred qualifications include demonstrated success in Extension programing and clear prospects for extramural funding.
