Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

To provide HVAC Maintenance and support to campus facilities and monitor and maintain associated equipment.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED AND Six years progressively responsible experience in any combination of air conditioning, refrigeration, temperature control, steam distribution, or heating trades.

Preferences:

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
General knowledge of HVAC trade, including: air conditioning, temperature control, plumbing and steam fitting; knowledge of NEC is desired. Must have the ability to perform the repairs and maintenance activities outlined above, including soldering and brazing of copper tubing; must be able to troubleshoot electrical circuits utilizing electrical schematics and wiring diagrams. Must be able to communicate effectively in oral and written form; basic computer keyboarding skills required; must be proficient in the use of e-mail and basic hand held electronic devices for work management applications.

Possession of an HVAC mechanic’s license from the State of MD desirable

Additional Certifications:

Must possess and maintain a valid Maryland Class C driver’s license, or equivalent, with fewer than 6 pts.

Levels 1 & 2 CFC Certification is required.

Physical Demands

Must be able to work in, on, around, over and under fixed equipment and machinery; to work in confined spaces; to be exposed to extremes of temperature and weather; may be required to work at great heights and on ladders up to 35 feet. Must have the ability to stand and walk up to 8 hours per day and to lift and carry up to 25 lbs on a regular basis, 50 pounds occasionally; must be able to manipulate multiple controls on machinery and equipment. Must be able to wear and work in personal protective equipment.
The incumbent is required to wear Uniforms and Safety Footwear provided by the University.

Position is Essential and subject to a 24-hour day, 7-day week span of operation.
Incumbent is expected to provide his/her own small hand tools. The university is not responsible for the repair/replacement of personal property. Tool List to be provided at time of employment.
