Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

Applications are invited for a Senior Faculty Specialist position at the Institute for Bioscience and Biotechnology Research (IBBR)/University of Maryland in the fields of bioscience and biotechnology. This position will assist the IBBR Director in multiple aspects of the daily management of the institute. Successful candidate will have extensive experience in scientific research and management as well as in an academic setting.

IBBR (www.ibbr.umd.edu) is a premier research institute focused on the structural and quantitative biological characterization of complex protein structure/function relationships and bio-molecular engineering and testing of novel products or platforms targeting prevention or treatment of conditions of human disease and intervention. IBBR operates state-of-the-art facilities located in the heart of the biotechnology corridor in Rockville, Maryland. The Institute is a joint research enterprise between the University of Maryland and the National Institute of Standards and Technology and has an outstanding group of scientists and engineers with long-standing track records in basic and translational research.

Job Description:

· Assist in identifying multi-disciplinary faculty teams within IBBR, across campuses, and with industry partners to foster submission of pilot and larger-scale proposals

· Oversee and coordinate the Faculty Affairs, including hiring process, as well as faculty contractual review and promotion (APT) policies and process for both tenure track and professional track faculty

· Assists the Director in preparation of documents for the Board of Advisors, Scientific Advisory Board, IBBR annual and quarterly reports, the Institute Fellows and Executive Committee meetings, etc

· Ensure proper and timely preparation of reports for major cooperative agreements and other projects with NIST, NIH, other federal sponsors, and colleges and departments at UMCP and UMB

· Assist the Director in administering strategic initiatives and educational programs for the Institute, and assurance that the initiatives are kept on track and progress is monitored

· Oversee the Institute communications/marketing efforts; prepare professional quality figures, slides, and associated written documents to describe and promote IBBR’s scientific and educational programs within the Institute and in external forums

· Assist the Business Office in the daily management of the NIST Cooperative Agreement

· Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

Appointee shall hold a Master’s degree or have at least 3 years full-time experience as a Faculty Specialist, or its equivalent.

Preferences:

Ph.D. degree. Extensive experience in scientific research and management, with expertise in the fields of bioscience and biotechnology. The incumbent should demonstrate the ability to work well in an interactive and collaborative environment with academic scientists and university administrators.
