Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Business Manager is responsible for administering the personnel, benefits, procurement, travel, facilities management, and accounting activities within the Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) and several units within the Division of Research. This position will also serve as the contact for Facilities Management activities and the liaison with building security and OVPR issued keys. Additional duties include support for special events and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and/or experience; applicable experience may be substituted for the Bachelor’s degree on a year by year basis.

A minimum of three (3) years of applicable experience (e.g. personnel/HR, payroll, benefits, procurement, travel, facilities coordination, accounting, etc.); seven (7) years of applicable experience without BA/BS.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Knowledge of purchasing and travel policies and procedures.
• Advance user of Microsoft Office applications, i.e., MS Word and Excel.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
• Must be detail oriented, a problem solver and able to work under deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Must be flexible with the ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
• Ability to interpret and explain policies to a diverse audience.
• Ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion and tact while maintaining confidentiality.

Preferences:

• Experience working in the Payroll & Human Resources (PHR) system, Kuali Financial System (KFS), Priority/BA4 software, Warehouse on the Web (WOW) and other UMCP systems preferred.
• Knowledge of Federal OMB rules and regulations.

Physical Demands

Sedentary work performed in a normal office environment; exerts up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Ability to attend meetings both on and off campus. Spending long hours in front of a computer screen.
