Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The University System of Maryland Office (USMO) invites applications and nominations for the Exempt Staff position of Prospect Researcher. The prospect researcher is a key member of the Advancement’s staff within the central office of the University System of Maryland (USM).
The position’s primary responsibilities include researching, analyzing and preparing individual, corporate and foundation profiles for current and potential donors for the institutions with the USM and for the USMO. Also, maintaining lists of prospective members of various affiliations, such as the Maryland Chamber of Commerce, the Maryland Business Roundtable for accurate mailing and the Chancellors invitation lists. The individual will collect and analyze data to prepare written reports on individual, corporation and foundation donors and potential donors for Development Officers, Chancellor and the Vice Chancellor for Advancement. In addition, reading periodicals for information on alumni and prospective donors to find names and articles which are then shared with development officers in the USM. The prospect researcher will communicate on a daily basis with other Advancement departments within the System and System campuses.

Minimum Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree with two to three years experience in higher education. A preferred candidate will have experience in non-profit advancement research, advanced knowledge of prospect research tools to include: Ellucian Advance Database, Foundation Directory, Lexis-Nexis, Dun and Bradstreet, Hoovers, Dialog and real estate assessment services etc., Excellent written and oral communication skills are required to communicate information needs and financial reporting concepts to others with widely varying understanding of issues.
