Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

Reporting to the Procurement Administrator, oversees the operations of the Dining Services storeroom and assists the Procurement Administrator in the purchasing and strategic sourcing of over 15 million dollars of food, beverages (alcoholic and non alcoholic), and food service equipment and supplies annually.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality Management, Business, Supply Chain Management or related field and three years of leadership experience in the procurement and inventory control of food, beverages and food service equipment and supplies, of which at least two years must include utilizing a food service menu management software program and working with multiple vendors. An Associate’s Degree from a certified Culinary School or additional experience may be substituted for the degree. Must have computer and internet usage skills; have knowledge of the food service market and the procurement of food and supplies; ability to work with and lead a diverse team; strong oral and written communication skills; ability to operate a fork lift and electric pallet jacks and drive a truck in excess of 10,0001 pounds; mathematical skills to evaluate and compute bid results and to verify invoices; working knowledge of the principles and procedures for food preservation and preparation; knowledge and skill in receiving and storage of perishable food products; ability to work under deadlines in a professional manner and work collaboratively with staff in operating units and outlets.


-Five or more years of food, beverage and supply procurement, distribution and storage experience at a large public organization
-Possession of a DOT Motor Carrier’s License
-Culinary Degree or equivalent experience
-At least two years of experience regularly using a fork lift, pallet jack and driving a truck greater than 10,001 pounds

Additional Certifications:

Must have, or obtain within 90 days or hire, and maintain a Prince George’s County Food Service Manager’s Certification. Must be able to pass a Federal Department of Transportation Physical and participate in the University of Maryland Random Drug Screening Program. Must have, or obtain within 30 days of hire, and maintain a Forklift Operators Certification. Must have and maintain a driver’s license valid in Maryland with less than 5 points.

Physical Demands

This is an essential position and incumbent must report to work when the campus is closed due to weather or other emergency situations. Must be able to work a variable schedule including weekends, nights, evenings, and holidays. Annual leave will not be granted for specific periods including the weeks preceding and right after the start of each semester, Football Weekends, Maryland Day, Family Weekend or special events including but not limited to OM. Must have the manual dexterity to operate equipment with or without accommodation and to lift up to 15 pounds regularly. The University of Maryland is a non-smoking campus.

Must be able to lift 40 pounds on a regular basis and up to 75 pounds occasionally and stand, walk and work on feet for long periods of time. Must be able to work in extreme weather, humidity and temperature conditions including regularly working between 40 degrees and 90 degrees for extended periods and, from 15 below zero degrees to 40 degrees and from 90 degrees to 110 degrees for short periods of time.
