Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

As a member of the Decision Support team, the Business and Systems Analyst supports the implementation and enhancement of administrative and business intelligence systems owned by the Office of Institutional Research, Planning and Assessment (IRPA). The position is responsible for business analysis to clearly understand functional requirements, as well as data integration analysis to facilitate data exchange among systems and databases. The position also will encourage system adoption and success by developing and implementing user support strategies.

Duties and Responsibilities:

BUSINESS ANALYSIS: Perform business analysis to support the implementation and enhancement of administrative and business intelligence systems, including but not limited to problem identification, requirement identification, and solution design. Facilitate formal and informal discussions with stakeholders to accomplish these tasks. Synthesize information into appropriate analysis deliverables, such as business process diagrams and user stories.

DATA INTEGRATION SUPPORT: Analyze and document data integration points between administrative systems. Interpret SQL scripts and propose changes that support system enhancements. Trace and document data migration paths and data transformation steps. Prepare functional and technical data element definitions.

TRAINING AND USER SUPPORT: Develop documentation and training resources for end users. Support communities of practice that encourage sharing of knowledge and best practices among users.

SYSTEM IMPLEMENTATION SUPPORT: Collaborate with business system owners to implement solutions and upgrades that improve administrative and business intelligence systems. Plan and execute functional testing, coordinating testing efforts among multiple testers as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree Required
Experience: At least two years full-time experience (or equivalent part-time experience) in business analysis in educational setting required. Related experience in government or industry is acceptable. Experience implementing software or managing data integration can substitute for one year of business analysis experience.

KSA: Working knowledge of SQL from writing or editing code required. Excellent written and oral communication skills, attention to detail, and an ability to work in team and group environments are essential. Must be able to facilitate and manage group discussions. Excellent problem solving and analytical thinking capabilities are critical. Must have effective time management skills with an ability to consistently deliver high-quality work amidst multiple or changing priorities.

Active eligibility to work in the United States is required.


Experience with query-based reporting tools (e.g. Hyperion), SAS, or Tableau preferred. Experience with higher education institutional data preferred.

Experience designing training materials is a plus.

KSA: Knowledge of software development lifecycle and agile development principles is a plus.
