Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

While reporting to the Director of Interdisciplinary Science, the Cyberinfrastructure Systems Analyst will work independently and collaboratively with the Computational Team members at SESYNC to analyze, configure, and extend cyberinfrastructure programs to meet the needs of researchers and SESYNC staff. Supported applications include a mix of commercial, open source, and locally-developed systems. The person will be responsible for successful day-to-day operation of computing systems and coordinating with SESYNC’s leadership and data scientists to support onsite researchers and funded science teams in achieving their research objectives. He/she will also work with various units at the University to maintain network connectivity, procure center resources, and support remotely hosted services. The individual will also work to identify and coordinate the deployment of new technologies (both hardware and software) to support the center’s mission.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer or Information Science or closely related field
• A minimum of 5 years’ experience with Linux deployment and configuration management software such as; Foreman, Puppet, Vagrant, Salt, Chef, or Ansible.
• Knowledge of or experience with Linux technologies and services such as; Apache/PHP, Tomcat, Nginx, MySQL, PostgreSQL, NFS, Samba, Docker, Git, Gitlab, SLURM
• Experience provisioning, configuring, and managing Windows services in an Active Directory environment using WDS/MDT, WSUS or Microsoft Systems Center (SCCM, VMM, DPM).
• Knowledge of or experience with all/part of the Microsoft Server Stack (PowerShell, Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, IIS, SQL Server, Office 365, Exchange, SharePoint, Skype for Business Server)
• Experience deploying and managing VMware ESXi and/or Microsoft Hyper-V virtualization environments
• Knowledge of Storage technologies such as iSCSI, Fibre Channel, Microsoft Storage Spaces, Microsoft SOFS
• Proficient with scripting languages such as PowerShell, bash, or perl
• Five or more years of programming experience to include C, Java, and Python
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects
• Outstanding oral, written and interpersonal skills, and enjoy working with people
• Excellent customer service skills demonstrated by the ability to interact effectively with administrators, faculty, and staff as well as partners and vendors outside of the University.
• Excellent time management and ability to define priorities

Preferences:

• Master’s Degree in closely related field
• Good understanding of networking technologies including: TCP/IP, firewalls, DNS, VPN, IP Telephony, Wireless, Switching & Routing, VLANS
• Good understanding of cybersecurity technologies
• Supervisory Experience
• Experience with managing large storage systems, preferably on Microsoft platforms.
• Experience conducting or supporting scientific research in an advanced computing environment

Physical Demands

Standard office environment with mostly sedentary/typical office work. The employee will need to be able to exert force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or consistently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects (up to 50 pounds). Must be able to occasionally work on a ladder to install and run cables through ceilings to meet the department’s networking needs. Must have close visual acuity to be able to view computer terminals.
There will also be repetitive motions of the wrists, hands, and fingers. Must be able to travel to/from campus to attend relevant meetings/trainings.
