Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Alumni Association connects, cultivates, and channels the power of Terps to enrich themselves and advance the University. The Volunteer and Marketing Coordinator will play an integral role in fulfilling this mission by identifying and connecting alumni with meaningful volunteer opportunities that provide value to the University community. Additionally, the Coordinator will create original content for the Alumni Association marketing channels that highlights alumni accomplishments and promotes the University brand.

The Coordinator will be responsible for creating a robust database of volunteer opportunities from across divisions at the University. S/He will match alumni with roles that suit their interests and skills, and ensure all volunteer activity is tracked in the University database. The Coordinator will analyze data and prepare reports to demonstrate volunteer impact. Additionally, s/he will create follow-up plans with the goal of driving future volunteerism, membership, and philanthropy.

The Coordinator will collaborate with the teams in the Engagement and Outreach, Membership, University Marketing and Communications, and other campus partners to develop original content to use on Alumni Association digital channels, including a podcast and video series. S/He will also create written content for use on the website, alumni magazine, and alumni newsletters. The Coordinator will also be responsible for updating all Network webpages with current and relevant information.

The Coordinator will assist in developing a segmented marketing strategy to communicate with alumni based on age, industry, interest area, and other affinities.

This position will be required to work occasional evening and weekends.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education (include licenses, certifications, etc.): Bachelor’s degree required.

Experience:
A minimum of two years of experience in marketing, alumni relations, communications, or related field.
Experience working with volunteers.
Experience with Advance or similar databases.
Data analysis and reporting.
Experience managing websites and social media.
Experience writing profiles, features, or spotlights.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Excellent writing and oral communication skills.
Creative thinker and problem solver.
High degree of attention to detail.
Collaborative and able to interact effectively with both external and internal audiences and capable of building strong working relationships in a complex environment.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasked environment, prioritize tasks, think proactively, and work independently, using good judgement and expertise to make decisions.
Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office Suite and Google Drive.
Ability to work occasional evening and weekends.

Preferences:

An understanding and appreciation of the values of a public higher education institution and ability to articulate it to internal and external constituencies.
Prior experience with an institution of higher education.
Experience with Drupal, InDesign, and other similar software.
