Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Graphic Designer will work collaboratively with faculty and staff to assist in the development of materials in support of online, blended, MOOC, and face-to-face courses and experiential learning programs for the Robert H. Smith School of Business. This position will work with faculty and instructional designers to produce graphics, simple animations, and other visual communications that are engaging and instructionally sound. This position will be responsible for creating and editing style guides, templates, graphics and simple animations for print materials, infographics, PowerPoint slides, course websites, instructional videos, interactive eLearning modules, and other projects as assigned. The Graphic Designer is part of the Office of Transformational Learning and reports to the Assistant Director of Course Development.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in graphic design or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

A minimum of 7-9 years (with a High School Diploma or GED); 5-7 years (with an associate degree) or 3-5 years (with a bachelor’s degree) of progressively responsible graphic design experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to provide graphic design consulting services to subject matter experts (faculty and instructional designers).
Capable in print, multimedia, web, and digital design.
Highly proficient computer skills to include MS Office Suite (particularly PowerPoint) and Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop and Illustrator.
Experience in collaborating with teams and clients to manage expectations.
Visual thinker, ability to be creative, flexible, and innovative.
Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize, and meet strict deadlines.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail, organizational skills, client management skills, self-direction, and motivation a must.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Experience working with AfterEffects preferred.
Experience working within design and branding standards and ensuring work is properly aligned.
Experience working in a higher education environment preferred.
Knowledge of video editing software preferred.
Proficient in HTML.
Demonstrated commitment to customer satisfaction: exceptional skills in collaboration, consultation, communication, customer support, data analysis, and time management.

Physical Demands

Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards.

Must have the ability to walk short distances.

Must have ability to help set up for events- this would include light lifting less than 30lbs. Ability to work effectively in an open office environment with frequent interruptions (i.e. phone calls and guests).
