Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

Coordinates with Assistant Director and staff on all print/digital media and marketing strategies for the Adele H Stamp Student Union, Center for Campus Life. Assists in analyzing project objectives and determines graphic and production requirements. Works directly with assigned colleague-clients to provide consultation and design solutions for communications campaigns that comply with STAMP graphic standards and brand guidelines. Creates graphic designs, including but not limited to digital illustrations and typography for visual communications media. Designs print materials and promotional materials to advertise and promote department programs, facilities, services and events (banners, brochures, postcards, posters, signage, online graphic images, custom promotional items, etc.). Works with web developers to maintain brand consistency on the Stamp website. Assists as needed in experiential shared learning experience for 4-5 student designers. Produces marketing and communications campaigns that adhere to the UMD and Stamp brands, ensuring/enforcing proper usage by staff members, Stamp, and campus-wide compliance.

Minimum Qualifications:

•Bachelor’s Degree in fine arts, graphic design, marketing, communications, public relations, or related field.
•2 years of professional related experience or combination of education and training.
•Excellent oral, presentation and interpersonal communication skills.
•Exemplary proofreading.
•Strong understanding of new technologies and how they can be applied to marketing.
•Team player – works to ensure team goals are met or exceeded, and embodies providing excellent customer service initiative.
•Excellent multitasking abilities and able to interact with various departments.
•Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite: Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.
•Proficiency with Microsoft Office, namely Word & PowerPoint.
•Proficient with a Mac platform.

Preferences:

•Experience working with a professional printer. Experience with email distribution systems such as Emma, MailChimp, Constant Contact, etc.
•Familiarity with web and/or video software such as Dreamweaver, After Effects or Final Cut Pro.
•Familiarity using web content management systems.
•Familiarity working in a Student Affairs and/or higher education setting.

This is a temporary, approximately 12-week position, expected to be filled from mid/late January through March/April (exact timeline TBD). This position does not offer benefits, including leave, health insurance coverage subsidies, and tuition remission.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Designs print materials and promotional materials to advertise and promote department programs, facilities, services, and events (banners, brochures, postcards, posters, etc.).
• Designs promotional materials (logos, signage, custom promotional product giveaways—water bottles, phone cases, pens, buttons, stickers, t-shirts, etc.).
• Edits photos for use in print and web materials.
• Works directly with assigned colleague-clients to provide consultation and design solutions for communications campaigns that comply with STAMP graphic standards and brand guidelines.
• Maintains a quality working relationship with outside vendors and printers
• Participates in creative brainstorming sessions with the team of student and professional marketing communication designers.
• Provides creative and stylistic direction for projects and units in the Stamp.
• Proofs all creative materials for quality and brand consistency.
• Serves as a designer for Stamp-run event committees.
• Makes certain all materials created by the internal departments are reviewed by the Marketing department.
• Works with web developers to maintain the look and feel of the Stamp website and checks for brand consistency
• Provides graphic design elements for Stamp client websites and social media channels.
• Formats images and/or content to promote programs and events.
• Works with the Assistant Director of Marketing and staff to determine priority for the Stamp homepage real estate.
• Assists as needed any updates for technology, design library and training materials.
• Participate as needed in the professional development and readiness of the student staff.
• Participate as needed in constructively critiquing student work to provide teachable moments.
• Assists as needed the professional marketing staff with long-term student assigned projects and workflow of all design jobs.
• Produces marketing and communications campaigns that adhere to the UMD and Stamp brands, ensuring/enforcing proper usage by staff members, Stamp, and campus-wide compliance.
• Participates in developing solutions to decrease the print production budget as needed.
• Manages multiple jobs from concept through completion.
• Assists as needed with maintenance, troubleshooting of design software and equipment, including cameras, iMac computers, HP printers, scanners, pen tablets, and print production materials.
• Assists with tabling events, representing STAMP programs, events and offerings as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands

May participate in tabling events and Marketing unit’s inventory management process that will require the ability to lift 10-15 pounds.
This is primarily sedentary work with occasional physical exertion to move paper boxes or files. Repetitive typing motions involved. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas; hearing is required to perceive information; visual acuity is required for researching, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operation of machines, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.
