Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

This position is housed in Annapolis, MD.

Reporting to the Associate Director of Finance and Administration, the Research Accounts Coordinator will be responsible for managing the financial aspects of multiple research accounts, assisting with new grant proposal routing and budget preparation, sub award monitoring, accurate reporting, and compliance with federal and state regulations as well as ensuring adherence to University of Maryland policies and procedures. The incumbent will share management responsibility for SESYNC’s financial operations. Specific duties include budget management, monthly financial reports, oversight of expenditures and account transfers, account reconciliation, detailed budget analysis and projections. She/he will setup, manage and monitor subcontracts and purchase orders, track rates of spending and request submission of deliverables. This includes, but is not limited to, the processing of day-to-day financial transactions, procurement, complex data entry, tracking employee effort on various projects and accounts, and as needed, providing a range of administrative support for SESYNC’s central leadership and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
A Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and

Experience:
At least three years’ experience in financial management.

This position requires the ability to work independently and at fast pace on multiple and complex projects simultaneously and demonstrate professionalism, diplomacy and a positive attitude.
The candidate must also be able to identify tasks that are priority and provide a quick turnaround in mostly all aspects of the job.
The candidate must be self-motivated, detail oriented, possess the ability the perform duties under limited supervision; have demonstrated organizational, analytical and problem solving abilities.
The candidate must be resourceful and be able to research independently the best solutions for problems that may arise.
Must possess outstanding oral, written and interpersonal skills, exercise proper time management, enjoy working with people, and have flexibility to adapt to the changing needs of SESYNC’s Administration.
The candidate must have excellent customer service skills demonstrated by the ability to interact effectively with administrators, faculty, and staff as well as partners outside of the University. Knowledge of University of Maryland policies and procedures in the areas of pre-award activities including the preparation, review, and routing of proposals in accordance with established deadlines and sponsor regulations.
Knowledge of the University of Maryland policies and procedures and how they relate to grant accounting, travel, personnel, and purchasing; Experience with BA3 (CMNS’ Accounting Shadow System) and Kuali Financial System (KFS).
The candidate must also have the ability to manage, plan for, and execute long-range projects.
Strong Microsoft Office Skills are required (Excel, Outlook, Word, etc.) as well as the ability to work within multiple internal databases, operate scanning software, and maintain consistent organization of both paper and electronic files.

Preferences:

Experience with COEUS; Completion of the Office of Research Administration’s Certificate Program, working knowledge of the Federal Uniform Guidance and the National Science Foundation’s General Program Guidance

Physical Demands

Sedentary/typical office work.
Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

The worker is required to have close visual acuity in order to prepare, analyze, and read frequently from a computer screen.

Must be able to travel to/from campus to attend relevant trainings/meetings
