Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Instructional Design Program Manager (MOOC) oversees implementation and management of course development work for the Massive Open Online Courses. This position executes program development and management plans, collaborates with subject matter experts and faculty to design courses and assets, and manages a team of course development professionals. The ideal candidate has experience applying principles in learning science to online courses and programs and has demonstrated success managing a portfolio of projects in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. This position performs a broad range of varied, non-routine activities associated with instructional design and development, program and personnel management, and internal and external communications. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Course Development.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree plus 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience in instructional design, course development, and/or educational program development.

At least 1 year of supervisory experience.

Demonstrated experience managing complex projects involving multiple stakeholders.

Active eligibility to work in the United States.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of learning sciences, instructional design theory and methodology and best practices in pedagogy.
Experience in designing authentic assessments and engaging course content.
Ability to be creative, flexible, and innovative in course design.
Ability to provide instructional, curriculum, and technical design consulting services to subject matter experts (faculty). Ability to foster faculty enthusiasm for and engagement in the use of innovative technologies for teaching.
Experience with learning management systems (Canvas LMS, Blackboard, Moodle, etc.).
Experience with web delivery and development tools, HTML, CSS, and digital media platforms.
Experience using authoring tools such as Captivate and Storyline to create sophisticated adaptive learning content.
Strong bias for action and ability to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Excellent written and oral communication skills and an ability to work in a team environment.
Ability and experience working independently and a track record of taking initiative in uncertain, dynamic environments.
Demonstrated commitment to customer satisfaction: exceptional skills in collaboration, consultation, communication, customer support, data analysis, and time management.
Driven by standards of excellence and committed to continuous improvement.


Master’s degree in instructional design, education, instructional technology, or related field

Coursework in project management

1-3 years managing instructional designers

Demonstrated experience designing courses or assets for online programs.

Demonstrated experience in a Research I university as an instructor, instructional designer, instructional coach, or graduate student.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to develop strategic relationships with internal and external stakeholders to increase organizational efficiency and effectiveness.
Understanding of copyright and accessibility regulations in a higher education and online setting.
Data-driven approach to decision making.

Physical Demands

Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards.
Must have the ability to walk short distances.
Must have ability to help set up for events- this would include light lifting less than 30lbs. Ability to work effectively in an open office environment with frequent interruptions (i.e. phone calls and guests).
