Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Coordinator provides executive level support to the Associate Vice President for Innovation & Economic Development. This position will evaluate and prioritize all activities for the AVP by deciding which issues require the AVP’s involvement and immediate attention, if an issue requires additional information before being presented to the AVP, and what can be delegated to other members of the AVP’s leadership in the Office of Technology Commercialization (OTC), the Small Business Development Center (SBDC), the Maryland International Incubator (MI2), or other project/program leaders.

The Coordinator will assess issues and conflicts arising from competing demands, anticipate potential problems and provide solutions, and/or elevate the issues appropriately. This position researches, harvests, and compiles background information on potential collaborators and stakeholders; coordinates the AVP’s involvement in customer relations and outreach to academic, local, US, and foreign government, and private industry partners and clients; and coordinates and facilitates briefings and other meetings that may include interfacing with high-ranking government, industry, and/or international visitors requiring additional government or diplomatic protocols.

The position will also coordinate and prioritize action items necessary to implement the strategic business and research development initiatives; draft and edit correspondence that includes confidential and sensitive material; and coordinate and control the daily and long-range schedule of the AVP.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.

Experience:
At least five (5) years of administration experience working with high-level university, private industry and/or federal government administrators/researchers including planning and supporting senior-level and executive meetings required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize and demonstrate good judgment in handling faculty and administrative staff; creativity and flexibility in accomplishing demanding work tasks and schedules.
• Outstanding verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
• Proven ability to analyze situations, develop plans, ensure successful and efficient implementation.
• Ability to work independently on complex and time-sensitive projects and demonstrate diplomacy and a positive attitude.
• Proven ability to adapt to a growing and changing staff and office environment.
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and exercise discretion as appropriate.
• Strong computer skills, including advance user of MS Office and ability to conduct comprehensive online searches.
• Ability to work on deadlines with attention to detail.
• Ability to handle the stress of a very active work environment.

Preferences:

• Bachelor’s degree in a Business related area, Computer Science, Engineering or the Physical Sciences.
• Experience preferred in a university/academic setting working in a fast-paced and constantly changing environment.
• Experience with entrepreneurial activities, such as startup companies or intellectual property patents/copyrights.

Physical Demands

Sedentary work performed in a normal office environment. Ability to travel locally, in state, and out of state to attend and/or set-up meetings, conferences, and other events. Spending long hours in front of a computer. Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, reach, lift/move (up to 20 pounds), point, talk, and hear. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
