The Universities at Shady Grove (USG) is a regional higher education center of the University System of Maryland (USM) located in Rockville, Maryland. USG is an innovative partnership of 9 public universities providing access to more than 80 high-demand undergraduate and graduate degrees specifically selected to respond to the workforce needs of the county and region. USG currently serves over 3900 students enrolled day-time, evening, full-time and part-time degree programs. The campus is projected to grow to 7500 students and is planning additional facilities to expand its health sciences and engineering degree offerings.

Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Facilities and Planning department at the Universities at Shady Grove (USG) oversees the building operation and maintenance campus, including three educational buildings and two parking garages with independent environmental systems. A larger fourth lab building (BSE) is scheduled to begin occupancy in Spring of 2018.

The primary responsibility of this position is to monitor and manage reports for the following systems/software:

  • Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS) through MicroMain (work order, preventive maintenance, and system inventory)
  • Siemens Advantage Navigator for tracking building automation operations
  • EnergyCAP for archiving and reporting on utility usage and costs

The above systems are used to track facilities management efficiency, effectiveness and identify potential areas for improvement in both operational procedures and work order analysis.

In addition, the position will monitor and track the University’s performance on specific sustainability indicators, report the University’s performance to internal and external audiences, and work with stakeholders to improve the environmental performance of the campus.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education (include licenses, certifications, etc.):

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent work experience required.


  • At least two years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience in higher education or similar environment.
  • Experience in facilities management or similar industry.
  • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (MicroMain).
  • Experience with building automations (Siemens Apogee and Advantage Navigator) and/or energy monitoring systems
  • Experience with utility monitoring and energy analysis (Utility Billing, EnergyCAP, EnergyStar).
  • Experience in identifying, implementing and tracking sustainability initiatives
  • Experience writing reports and other publications regarding energy and related topics.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage and update work tickets and preventative maintenance through a computerized maintenance management system.
  • Ability to prepare and analyze Excel spreadsheets and graph reports from building monitoring software (Siemens Advantage Navigator and EnergyCAP).
  • Ability to work on multiple projects with overlapping deadlines.

Physical Demands

Position may require the handling of IT equipment, including computer units located under desks and other confined spaces. Incumbent must be able to lift up to 30 pounds.
