Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The System Analyst provides technical support for an alumni/development data system of more than a million entity records serving staff at ten USM institutions and offices (University of Maryland, College Park; University of Maryland, Baltimore County; University of Maryland Eastern Shore; University of Maryland University College; the University of Maryland Center for Environment Science; Towson University; Coppin State University; Bowie State University; Frostburg State University; the University System of Maryland Foundation).

The System Analyst is responsible for developing and maintaining web-based applications that interface with a relational database, leading data cleanup efforts, identifying data accuracy problems in the current database, and developing and implementing strategies for improvement. The position also provides assistance with custom report writing and supports distributed report writing tools. The position coordinates with Unix Administrator to provide local database administration, as required, and assisting with any current and future upgrades to the database; supporting other data querying and reporting efforts across Sungard Advance as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, or related field is required

A minimum of five to seven (5-7) years required experience in web and client server development using embedded Sybase, SQL Server or Oracle enterprise databases programming languages (SQL, PL/SQL, T-SQL), relational database structures, and UNIX and NT operating systems.

Experience must include:
—Applications development in full life-cycle environment with proven systems analysis, development, deployment and testing track record.
—Evaluating, recommending, implementing and teaching new software tools and processes.
—Direct interaction with customers and stakeholders.
—Developing enterprise reports using 3rd party software tools.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
—Technical knowledge to include developing/maintaining web-based applications that interface with a relational database.
—Ability to perform multiple tasks, set priorities and meet deadlines.
—Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
—Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are necessary.
—Ability to effectively communicate with team and customers in a fast-paced environment is a necessity.


Training in the use of relevant technology and supporting tools is preferred.

Training in principles and techniques of database integrity and security is preferred.
