Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Academic Counselor in the Academic Support and Career Development Unit (ASCDU) is responsible for assisting student-athletes in meeting their academic objectives culminating in the realization of a university degree. The individual will serve as the primary contact and athletic academic counselor responsible for overseeing the implementation of academic plans while monitoring the academic progress of student-athletes in the football program. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to: participating in the recruitment, orientation, pre-registration, and enrollment of student-athletes; acting as a liaison to faculty, administrators, and coaches regarding student-athlete academic matters; tracking and monitoring academic progress; assisting in the management of the objective based study hall program; and performing other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Counseling, Student Personnel, Education or related field. At least 1-2 years of experience in post-secondary educational institutions.

Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.

Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).

Must be available and willing to work evenings and weekends as assigned.

Preferences:

At least 1-2 years of experience in post-secondary athletic academic services preferred.

Experience working with various components of the GradesFirst software preferred.

Working knowledge of NCAA continuing eligibility rules and regulations preferred.

Physical Demands

The scope of the position requires occasional weekend and evening work (Non-standard work hours) as well as some travel. While performing the essential functions of the job, the employee operates a computer and other office devices such telephones, copy machines, fax machines, etc; Constantly moves about the facility and campus; constantly communicates via telephone, email and in-person with others to exchange accurate information.
