Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The College of Arts & Humanities at University of Maryland, College Park, has an immediate opening for a 12-month IT graduate assistant in the Web & Application Services Group. The Group is in charge of all things web-related for the College and its units, including website and web application development. You will be working with the latest web technologies and software development process to solve both simple and complicated problems. The environment is flexible, fun, and challenging, and you will learn all the industry standards for developing websites and applications.

Primary responsibilities include:
• Participation in all phases of software development life cycle, both agile and waterfall, using Atlassian software development suites that include Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket for GIT hosting
• Implementing and maintaining websites and applications in Drupal, the most widely used open source content management system in the higher education and government sectors
• Evaluating and/or adapting new technologies or software products
• Assisting users with all web-related requests

Minimum Qualifications:

• Must be enrolled as a full-time graduate student at the University of Maryland, College Park.
• Experience in web and applications development.
• Experience of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, and MySQL required.
• Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work well independently and collaboratively in a team, highly motivated and enjoy learning and adapting new web technologies.
• Interested in both frontend and backend development


• Experience or knowledge with Drupal 7 or 8, or any open source content management systems is highly desired.
• Experience or knowledge in any of the following highly desired:
o Agile development, Jira/Confluence
o Source Control System (GIT, SVC, …etc)
o IDE tools such as Eclipse or Netbeans
o Basic OO concepts
o Unix, LAMP stack
o Vagrant
