Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The position is with the University of Maryland Extension’s (UME) Agricultural Nutrient Management Program (ANMP),
which is administered in the Department of Environmental Science and Technology. The Nutrient Management and
Communications Specialist will oversee all print and web communications for the ANMP as well as provide educational
opportunities and technical support for certified nutrient management consultants statewide. This position will be located
on the University of Maryland College Park campus.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in agronomy, crop science, soil science, environmental science or closely related field with evidence of strong communications skills
• Working knowledge of agriculture and farming issues
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Competency in the use of computer technology for educational programming and information management (WORD, PowerPoint, EXCEL)
• Willingness to become competent with design software (such as Info Mapping and PhotoShop), Geospatial Information Systems, and USDA-NRCS erosion estimation tools (such as RUSLE2)
• Flexible working hours required; must be available for occasional evening programs
• A valid driver’s license and access to an automobile for travel

Preferences:

• Master’s Degree in agronomy, crop science, soil science or closely related field
• Certification as a Maryland nutrient management consultant
• Experience in website maintenance, Geospatial Information Systems and/or online learning platforms
• Demonstrated leadership and teaching abilities
• Experience in communicating with diverse audiences (i.e., lay and para-professional audiences)
