Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Center for Advanced Transportation Technology (CATT), a research center established in 1998 within the Civil Engineering Department and part of the A. James Clark School of Engineering, is looking to hire a Finance Coordinator. The duties of the position are as follows:

• Responsible for accounting, analysis, reporting, and close-out of research and other departmental accounts.

• Ensure that expenditures on accounts are in compliance with campus and sponsor regulations/policies, including in the areas of purchasing, personnel, and travel.

• Utilize BA3 accounting system to enter budgets, encumber payroll and expense transactions, post monthly transactions, and produce summary reports.

• Meet with investigators and administrators to review and discuss accounts and develop plans for spending.

• Serve as liaison to University business offices and sponsor personnel regarding account expenses, and resolve any questions or issues that arise.

• Support research proposal preparation and submission of state and federal grants and contracts.

Minimum Qualifications:

• A Baccalaureate degree or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.

• Bachelor’s Degree and two (2) years of experience.
• Associate Degree and four (4) years of experience.
HSD or GED and six (6) years of experience.

• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing;

• Possess analytical skills to review expenditures and revenues and, prepare financial expenditure forecasts.

• Proficient in organizing and executing multiple assignments under specific time constraints.

Preferences:

• Knowledge of University of Maryland policies and procedures in the areas of travel, personnel, and purchasing.

• Experience with BA3 (Department’s Shadow Accounting System), and KFS (University’s Official Accounting System).

• Experience with COEUS desirable.

• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, particularly excel.

• Demonstrated attention to detail and proactive work style.

Physical Demands

Sedentary work.
Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
