Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Office of External Relations at the A. James Clark School of Engineering and University Relations team at the University of Maryland, College Park seeks a dynamic and energetic Events Coordinator.

The Event Coordinator is responsible for all logistical details for college-wide strategic events involving external constituents, donors and alumni. The Office of External Relations hosts 16-20 major events annually on campus, the Greater DC/Baltimore area with occasional regional events.

Under the direction of the Director of Alumni Engagement and Outreach and the Director of Donor Relations and Stewardship, this position is responsible for arranging facilities and other vendors, working with catering, securing contracts, tracking registrants, overseeing the design of print materials, promotion of event (emails, paper invitations), drafting briefing to Clark School leadership and post-event follow-up including stewardship of donors and prospects.

Ability to work evenings and weekends as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education (include licenses, certifications, etc.):
Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Minimum of two (2) years of administrative experience.
Experience in a direct customer service environment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must be an energetic and self-starter with the ability to work both independently and as part of a high producing team.
Strong organizational, technical, written and communication skills.
Resourceful with attention to detail and follow-through.
Ability to manage and organize multiple tasks effectively in dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Strong interpersonal skills that will enable him/her to work well with diverse group of constituents and colleagues.
Ability to work evenings and weekends as necessary.


Experience in event planning.
Familiarity with donor database software.
Familiarity with event planning software.
Experience tracking and managing budgets.

Physical Demands of the Position: Traditional office environment. Ability to transport boxes for events, move tables/chairs and lift up to 20lbs. Ability to work evenings and weekends as necessary for special events and activities.
