Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Graduate Assistant for the Tutorial Program will assist with regular reporting, marketing, recruitment of tutees, and fostering faculty/staff relationships throughout the University of Maryland. OMSE’s tutoring labs are open from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., so the Graduate Assistant will be responsible for overseeing the various procedural requirements of the tutorial program during those times. The Graduate Assistant for the Tutorial Program helps to compile weekly data, maintain accurate records associated with tutorial documents and generate bi-weekly and semester reports. The Graduate Assistant for the Tutorial Program will also aid the Assistant Director by ensuring tutors complete all required forms and adhere to the best practices in tutorial student relationships. The Graduate Assistant for the Tutorial Program reports directly to the Assistant Director.

• Monitor the completion of all documents associated with tutorial intake and tutorial logs
• Develop marketing outreach material that can be used to recruit student tutors
• Develop marketing outreach material that can be used to market to faculty and staff
• Develop marketing outreach material that can be used to inform classrooms and student organizations
• Tracking of tutor forms and office hours; notify the Assistant Director of changes
• Work all hours scheduled to work or agree to cover for someone else
• Assist with compiling weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly tutorial marketing reports
• Attend all training sessions and team meetings; notify Assistant Director immediately of any matters needing intervention
• Complete and submit all required Wufoo reporting forms by due dates
• Work closely with Front Desk Assistants to ensure logs, forms, and documents are reconciled weekly based on Assessment protocol and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Registered graduate student
• Good interpersonal communication skills
• Experienced with Microsoft Office applications
• Availability for approximately 10 hours of work per week, between 8:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. M-F
• Should be personable and comfortable assuming leadership roles.
• Good communication skills and must have the ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds and with varied skill levels.
• Patience and respect towards others
• Self-starter, self-motivated and problem solver
• Have strong interpersonal and customer service skills
• Demonstrate the ability to be innovative in marketing strategies
• Be detail oriented
• Experienced with Microsoft Office applications (e.g. Excel, MSWord, etc.)
