Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Graduate Assistant will take a proactive role as the primary individual responsible for logistical oversight of programming designed to serve over 10,000 multi-ethnic students who matriculate through the Office of Multi-ethnic Student Education, UMD. The Program Assistant will serve at the direction of the Assistant Director of Student Development & Outreach. This individual will provide structured services with minimal oversight and a limited program budget.

The job responsibilities include ongoing event planning, working with Assistant Directors/Event Chairpersons by implementing the vision of the OMSE team, managing some aspects of marketing including invitations, labels, and listservs to ensure completion of programmatic tasks before, during, and after each event. This Graduate Assistantship will require weekly evening coverage and occasional weekend work.

Job Responsibilities include:

• Event planning in collaboration with the entire OMSE staff, before, during, and after annual events, including logistics.
• Serves as an official liaison to all program event committees.
• Various administrative tasks in coordination with the Assistant Directors and/or Event Chairpersons.
• Assisting with grant writing and editing.
• Advising the OMSE Leadership Council comprised of all programs under our umbrella.

Minimum Qualifications:

The successful candidate must have experience working with academic support programs and a wide range of racial/ethnic groups as well as other underrepresented male populations.

Excellent organizational, interpersonal, written and oral skills are essential. Demonstrated history in Microsoft Office, Google Drive, and Database Management competencies.
