Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Communications Coordinator assists with implementation of communications and public relations programs in an effort to strengthen and advance the Clark School of Engineering’s identity and reputation, promote and maintain a favorable perception of the School among general, academic, industry and government audiences; and help ensure that the School’s development, recruitment and partnership goals are more efficiently achieved. The Communications Coordinator serves the Mechanical Engineering and Aerospace Engineering Departments with minimal supervision on day-to-day tasks.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, English, public relations or a related field.

5-7 years of professional experience in communications and public relations.

Excellent written, verbal, editing, interpersonal, management and organizational skills.

A proven ability to manage successful communications programs utilizing writing, graphic design, event production, web content development and electronic communications.

Self-starter with an ability to independently manage competing priorities in a complex and dynamic environment.

Preferences:

Previous experience with web content management, particularly in the Drupal open-source environment, is highly desired, as well as experience with Microsoft Office Suite and the Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign. Social media experience is also highly desired. Design skills are desired, though not required.

Physical Demands

Sedentary work.
Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.

The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.

At events there is some need to do set up and take down of light materials such as literature, signs, etc.
