Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Office of Faculty Affairs exists to help faculty members achieve professional excellence as we build a world-class public research university. The Office of Faculty Affairs supports all aspects of the faculty experience on campus in key areas of promotion (for tenure track and professional track faculty), recognition (awards), development (leadership and mentoring), procedures (leaves and sabbaticals, tenure delays, policy implementation), and reporting (faculty data).

The graduate assistant would work on various projects and administrative tasks assigned by office personnel, reporting to the Manager. Responsibilities will include:
- composing, drafting, proofing and editing written materials;
- database maintenance and updating;
- website maintenance and development;
- conducting research on best practices;
- gathering data for special projects;
- compiling and distributing office communications and correspondence;
- organizing meetings; and, assisting with other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Must be enrolled in a Graduate Program at the University of Maryland.

An exceptional candidate will be a detail-oriented, proactive self-starter, have good organizational skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, the ability to maintain confidentiality, and the capacity to work collaboratively as well as independently. Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office products, Adobe Acrobat and database experience is required.

Preferences:

Previous administrative experience and proficiency with web development are preferred. Individuals from the iSchool and the College of Education, particularly in doctoral programs, are strongly encouraged to apply.

This is a 12-month position, reporting to the Manager of the Office of Faculty Affairs, available as soon as possible. The work week is 20 hours during the academic year during the hours between 8:30 and 4:30, and up to 40 hours/week during winter and summer terms.
