The Center for Advanced Transportation Technology Laboratory (CATT Lab) within the Civil Engineering Department at the University of Maryland is the premier transportation information analysis, visualization, and user interface design laboratory in the country. Our products and services are used by thousands of public officials, consultants, and public safety agencies. We produce an integrated suite of tools providing situational awareness for emergency managers and data analytics for decision makers.

Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

Serves as the Technical Lead of the IT Team. This is a technical position responsible for design, development, implementation, and optimization of physical and virtual infrastructure consisting of four large data centers (300+ servers) and two development labs (100+ workstations). This position requires strong knowledge and experience with networking and administration in a mixed environment with Windows and Linux systems.

Primary Job Responsibilities:
• Oversee and guide a team of systems administrators and network administrators performing day-to-day maintenance and operations at the CATT Lab.
• Execute hardware move to our new state-of-the-art data centers.
• Lead design, implementation, optimization, and maintenance of the CATT Lab network spanning four data centers and two development labs.
• Lead design, implementation, optimization, and maintenance of the CATT Lab physical and virtual infrastructure including 300+ servers, 100+ workstations, and associated network and storage equipment.
• Break down, prioritize, and delegate tasks for the team and ensure on-time delivery.
• Proactively document and report progress to management.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience running and maintaining a 24×7 production environment.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience leading IT teams.
• Strong knowledge and experience with Linux (CentOS, RHEL) server administration.
• Strong knowledge and experience with network design, implementation, and optimization.
• Ability to effectively delegate work, follow up, and provide progress reports.
• Ability to effectively create and maintain documentation that describes server and network configurations such as network diagrams, hardware configurations, and more.
• Familiarity with network and security concepts.
• Excellent written and spoken communication skills.

Preferences:

• Experience with Hadoop strongly preferred.
• Experience with VMware.
• Experience with Puppet, Chef, or Ansible.

Additional Certifications:

Server and/or network certifications are a plus.
