Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The School of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at the University of Maryland, College Park, seeks applicants for a position as a full-time, 9-month lecturer of Arabic, professional track, beginning Fall 2017. Contract is renewable contingent on performance and availability of funding.
The UMD Arabic Program offers an innovative and intensive language and culture curriculum in which classroom instruction is supplemented by events, clubs, guest speakers, language partnering, and education abroad. In addition to a major and minor in Arabic, the School also houses the prestigious Arabic Language Flagship Program which graduates students with professional-level proficiency following a Capstone year of intensive study overseas.

Minimum Qualifications:

Requirements include: an MA in TAFL or related field; a successful teaching record in Arabic language and cultural competence in a US higher education setting, to include the teaching of at least one dialect and Modern Standard Arabic, and at a range of levels, from beginner to highly advanced; experience in the design and delivery of content courses taught in Arabic; experience working in an intensive language program; experience in the design and delivery of co-curricular activities; native/near native command of a dialect, and fluency in Modern Standard Arabic; native/near-native fluency in English.
