Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The CATT Laboratory is looking to hire a full time UX/UI Designer to join our Art & Design team who can take customer ideas and turn them into requirements and designs. The designer must be a highly motivated professional who enjoys working in a fast paced, agile development environment. In this highly visible role, you will collaborate with design leads, developers and customers to create compelling user interfaces that will be viewed by thousands of people worldwide on PC and mobile devices. An ideal candidate will also utilize their knowledge, skill, and experience to keep customers satisfied while creating new business opportunities for the lab. In addition, applicants must be willing to learn new skills and stay current with transportation industry standards, upcoming technologies and customer management practices. The applicant must be precise, thorough and reliable in order to maintain the CATT Laboratory’s reputation of deploying of high quality websites, mobile applications, simulations, video games and data visualization products. The UX/UI designer will also work closely with web and client software engineers to implement their designs making good communication skills, teamwork, and a “will to learn” essential.

Job Responsibilities
• Create UX/UI designs through consideration of business requirements & technical limitations
• Act as a liaison between customers and developers within the CATT Lab.
• Translate high-level feature concepts into use cases and customer experience requirements
• Present design work to external partners, directors, and customers for review and feedback
• Produce wireframes, high-fidelity mockups and production art assets
• Develop and maintain detailed UI specifications and templates
• Ensure your designs can work across many languages using different character sets
• Review user requests and manage user permissions.
• Work on several different projects at once, and meet demanding deadlines
• Enjoys working in a fast paced work environment that requires frequent interaction with diverse group of employees, and internal and external customers.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education
• Design degree or equivalent in human factors, human computer interaction, information systems or related fields

Experience
• Demonstrated passion for consistency and simplicity in UI design
• Proficiency in a variety of design tools including Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign
• Deep understanding of web and mobile standards
• Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
• Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills required.
• Excellent problem solving skills.
• Proven ability to be detail‐oriented and handle a heavy workload in fast paced environment.
• The ability to provide detailed specifications, mockups/prototypes, and style guides
• Fluency in best practices for web-based information architecture and design
• An available online portfolio is a requirement for this position
• 1+ years as a UI and Graphic Designer

Preferences:

^Preferences: • Experience in a highly iterative environment
• The ability to scope design initiatives accurately and prioritize work appropriately
• Experience with source control software
• Ability to internalize and understand complex technical systems and how your implemented designs will fit into the big picture
• Proficiency in wireframing tools such as Balsamiq or Axure
• Knowledge of DOT operations
• 3+ years as a UI and Graphic Designer

Benefits include tuition remission and a choice of the Maryland State Pension System or one of the optional retirement programs on your first day of hire.
